Terry Tao introduced the concept of metastable convergence in 2008 as a
tool for his generalization of von Neumann’s mean ergodic theory. I
will discuss some recent research that shows unexpected ways in which
this concept has connected a priori distinct directions of mathematical
research, including different subareas of logic.
