Gruppo di Studio sulla Geometria Tropicale

'Tropical geometry' is an emerging topic which appeared to be relevant in different mathematical areas such as dynamical systems, algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry, combinatorics ...

We decided to try to understand a bit tropical geometry and its new applications to real algebraic geometry. For the moment the talks are meant to be introductive and elementary so that anyone can understand them (even if you missed the previous one).

Anyone who would want to give a talk on the subject is most welcome.

Hélène Pennaneac'h has written an elementary note to clarify definitions and basic facts. This work unifies, explains and sums up the properties of tropical varieties and amoebas as described in the articles quoted in the bibliography.

Some references on the subject

Lucia Lopez de Medrano ( e-mail ) from Jussieu university and Erwan Brugalle ( web page ) from Rennes 1 university will be visiting the department soon.

Lucia should arrive on the 20th of November and stay until the 28th. She should talk in the seminar on the 24th on moment map and maximal real algebraic curves with respect to the curvature. She will be staying in office 114.

Erwan will be here from December the 9th to Decembre the 15th. If possible he will give a talk on Tuesday 9, Dec. on the classification symmetric real algebraic curves of degree 7 (the time and place are not clear yet).
On monday 15, Dec. he will give a talk based on the article by Itenberg, Kharlamov and Shustin [IKS]

Please, feel free to come and talk with them if you wish.
