The Milani cubesat, dedicated to the astronomer Andrea Milani Comparetti who passed away in 2018 and was a long-time professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Pisa, is ready for launch in October 2024 from the ESA Estec center in the Netherlands.
This nanosatellite will be part of the European Hera mission, aimed at studying the binary asteroid system of Didymos and Dimorphos, as well as evaluating the test of NASA’s kinetic impactor DART. The handover took place at Tyvak International in Turin, and subsequently the cubesat will be integrated and validated at the ESA Estec center before launch.
