Three FIS 2024–2025 Projects Awarded to the Department of Mathematics

We are pleased to announce that three of our faculty members have been awarded prestigious grants within the Italian Science Fund (FIS) 2024–2025, the competitive program of the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR) dedicated to supporting excellence in fundamental scientific research. This is an outstanding achievement for our Department and for the University as a whole: the University of Pisa has received 13 funded projects in total, three of which are hosted by our Department.

More specifically, funding has been awarded to:

  • Dario Trevisan, recipient of a Consolidator Grant, for the project “Optimal Transport and large Deviations for Deep Learning theory”
  • Giulio Bresciani, recipient of a Starting Grant, for the project “Rational points by fundamental groups”
  • Andrea Tamburelli, recipient of a Starting Grant, for the project “Topology and geometry of higher Teichmüller spaces”

The Department warmly congratulates the three researchers for this important recognition, which testifies to the excellence of the mathematical research carried out within our community.
