This page contains information on deadlines and requirements to be fulfilled in order to obtain the degree. Before proceeding, students must first consult the instructions available on the University Student Office website (in particular, verify the document “Graduation Sessions Calendar”). The rules for determining the final degree grade can be found in the relevant section of the Master’s Degree Programme Curriculum Framework.
Please note that the Master’s Degree thesis (as well as theses from Specialist or Old System degrees) must be submitted in electronic format through the ETD portal, following precisely the instructions provided on the University website.
Note: “Teaching Office” refers to the Teaching Office of the Department of Mathematics; “University Student Office” refers to the central University Student Office.
At least 30 days before the start of the graduation session
- Online, for the Student Office: submit the graduation application through the Alice portal. Download the latest approved and valid study plan from the CAPS portal and send it to patrizia.lenzi@unipi.it. Do not send the study plan to Patrizia Lenzi if it is still awaiting approval; in that case, contact segdid@dm.unipi.it for information regarding approval.
Note: If none of the thesis supervisors belong to the University of Pisa or other Pisa-based higher education institutions, please contact the Programme Coordinator for instructions before submitting the application. - Online, per la Segreteria Didattica, presentare domanda tramite l’interfaccia CAPS:
- Log in using your university credentials, then select “Modules” in the left menu and choose “Master’s Degree: Final Examination Application”. You will be asked to provide certain information, including the proposal of three examiners (to be agreed in advance with your thesis supervisor).
- You will be required to upload two documents: the thesis abstract and proof of completion of the graduating students’ evaluation questionnaire. Students who do not hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics obtained at the University of Pisa must also upload documentation certifying English language proficiency at B2 level or higher (e.g. a B2 or higher language certificate; a self-certification of examinations passed at another university, including an English-language course at B2 level or higher. If the level is not explicitly stated in the self-certification, a link to the course syllabus or the official course description from which the level can be verified must also be provided). If you have obtained the B2 English language qualification through the CLI (University of Pisa Language Centre), please specify this by adding a comment in the CAPS form.
At least 15 days before the start of the graduation session
- Student Office: upload the following documents through the Alice portal:
- Thesis cover page, generated and printed directly from ETD; the cover page must be digitally signed by the first academic supervisor (see the University website for detailed instructions);
- Receipt showing completion of the graduation evaluation questionnaire.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Since this step concerns the University of Pisa Student Office, students are strongly advised to verify requirements on the Student Office website, as changes may occur that are not yet reflected on this page.
For questions or difficulties, contact patrizia.lenzi@unipi.it (Mathematics contact for the Student Office).
IMPORTANT: If you decide not to defend your thesis in the session for which you registered, it is important to immediately cancel the graduation application in Alice and notify both offices, according to the deadlines:
-Up to 15 days before the start of the session: cancel the application through Alice and send an email informing of the withdrawal to patrizia.lenzi@unipi.it and segdid@dm.unipi.it.
-After this deadline: send notification of your withdrawal by email to patrizia.lenzi@unipi.it and segdid@dm.unipi.it.
If the electronic cover page has already been submitted: you must also notify the ETD staff by writing to etd@sba.unipi.it. All data entered in the ETD system will be deleted, allowing the thesis submission process to be restarted from scratch in the future.
You will then need to repeat the entire procedure (graduation application and document uploads) in order to graduate in a subsequent session.
