Interval exchange transformations with flips and a conjecture by Novikov – Pascal Hubert (Aix-Marseille Université)

I will discuss a joint work with Yvan Dynnikov, Paul Mercat, Olga Paris-Romaskevich and Sasha Skripchenko. I will explain the dynamics of some families of interval exchange transformations with flips and the link with a conjecture by Novikov on foliations on surfaces. The conjecture states that, given a triply periodic surface, the trace on the surface of a foliation by a family of parallel planes has remarkable properties: Leaves are compact or remain at bounded distance from a line for generic parameters. Our results on interval exchange transformations with flips imply a weak version of the conjecture.
