Fourier Rearrangement: Symmetry results for PDEs of arbitrary order – Enno Lenzmann (University of Basel)

Abstract

In this talk, I will give an introduction to the method of Fourier rearrangements. This is a new method for proving optimal symmetry results for minimizers of variational problems involving (pseudo-)differential operators. In particular, we can address problems which have been out of scope by classical rearrangement techniques (e.g. Schwarz symmetrization, Polya-Szegö inequality, Talenti’s principle etc.) The talk is intended for non-specialists and is based on joint work with Jérémy Sok.
